    Schnell Is Not Italian
At the conclusion of the VNV Nation tour last Monday, I was in Athens Greece. I went to sleep after the show around 3am only to be woken by my alarm 2 hours later so that I could go to the airport for my long journey back home to Boston. To my horror, I found that the air conditioner had been leaking water all over my last pair of clean clothes for the last 2 hours. They were soaked and I had no choice but to put them on and travel in them. I thought to myself this was the worst thing I'd ever had to endure traveling.

    I was wrong.

And so the following proceeded to happen: None Of This Is Made Up Or Exaggerated )

I Know This Is Old News, But...
Since I'm terrified of flying and have to do it regularly as part of my job, I find it fascinating how calm the pilot was during this crash landing. Here is an animation of the US Airway Flight 1549 synched to the actual audio recording between the pilot and control tower. What I find even more unnerving is how unaware LaGuardia is of how bad the situation is. They're still trying to land them on a runway even after they're crashed in the Hudson.

    Man, I hate flying.

    Dangerous Toys
I was never a huge (pause) hair metal fan back in the 80's as it was basically "music for chicks". But I really liked this tune and had forgotten all about it. And of course, like every other defunct 80's band, they reformed recently. So, here's a long lost favorite from my youth, then and now:

    THEN (1988):

    NOW (20 years later):

Ouch. Hair metal does not improve with age.

The Original Max Cavalera (part two, I guess)

After posting about the Cavalera Conspiracy's "new" slogan, I remembered something else. Max Cavalera's other band, Soulfly, have an interesting song. This is better exemplified through mp3 samples, so have a listen. And bow before the true originality of METAL!!!

Soulfly "Flyhigh" (released in 2000): http://www.mindfield.org/riff/Soulfly-Flyhigh.mp3

Prong "Controller" (released in 1995): http://www.mindfield.org/riff/Prong-Controller.mp3

    BONUS ROUND:
Argyle Park "Doomsayer" (released in 1995): http://www.mindfield.org/riff/ArgylePark-Doomsayer.mp3

Crystal Method: Drown In The Now
Anybody else notice how damn good this track is? And it's a free mp3 download on Last.fm too.

    Star Wars Retold
This is a pretty funny and worth a look when you get a chance. Here is the description of the video from the website:

"My friend Amanda had never seen a whole Star Wars film. When I asked her if she wanted to watch the original trilogy she said that she would, but that she already knew what happens. So I took out my voice recorder and asked her to start from the top. I then created some very basic animation in Final Cut to go along with her narration."

    Guitar Center Sale?
I got a postcard from Guitar Center advertising that everything in the store Memorial Day weekend will be 15% off. Ok, not super awesome, but not bad. However, there is fine print (and this is the funny part). It reads that there are some exceptions to the sale:

    A) Clearance, used, price-matched, and vintage items.
    B) Anything by DigiDesign, Fender, Squire, EVH, Jackson, Gretsch, Gibson, Epiphone, ESP, Shure, Bose, MOnster Cable, Mesa Boogie, Mogami, Morgan, Martin, SWR, Apple, SSL, Euphonix, and Royer Labs.

This begs the questions "Um, what the hell is left then?" and "Is ANYTHING actually on sale?!".

    Stendeck "Somnambula"

I've talked about this band before, but I really can't recommend this album enough. Really worth a listen if you're into instrumental industrial, IDM or ambient music. Along the lines of Gridlock, FSOL, HECQ, Skinny Puppy (sort of), and Boards Of Canada at times.

Every track they have uploaded to their MySpace page is incredible. Seriously check it out: http://www.myspace.com/stendeck

Of course the other CD I've been raving a lot about lately is Telefon Tel Aviv "Immolate Yourself". Need to hear that one too: http://www.myspace.com/telefontelaviv

    This Is Cool

Yes, yes, I know this is already an app for the iPhone, but I don't have an iPhone and I didn't know they had a flash version of it for the web. That's what I think is cool. Losers like me who use the Verizon network and don't have an iPhone can still have a computer decide where they should eat. :P

    Logic Pro 8
... I hate it. But only because I have no clue how to do anything in it. It's driving me insane. I'm a Cubase SX user and I dont have a working copy for my Intel MacMini. So I've been trying to learn Logic instead, but getting nowhere with it.

First of all, how the hell do I load all my cool AU instruments into it (Like Albino 3 or Predator)? All I can seem to find so far are the ones that come with Logic.

I want to make music, damn it! Not read manuals!

    Any Mac Users Out There?
I'm a bit clumsy at times on my computer. I know shocking huh. But no, an example of this is closing tab in Firefox. The keyboard command for this is Apple W, which just so happens to be right next to Apple Q which quits the application. I have been driving myself insane by quitting Firefox when all I want to do is close a tab. I've solved part of the problem by setting my Firefox preferences to warning me when closing multiple tabs.

But (and here's my question) is there some way I can simply assign a single key on my keyboard to close a Firefox tab? Again, I'm on a Mac running OSX 10.5.6. I have tried everything I could think of. I have downloaded all kinds of applications like "One Key", "Quickeys", "QuickSilver", etc. Nothing works. I of course have tried setting the system Prefs for the keyboard, but that didn't do a damn thing either (I set the F1 key to Close Tab in Firefox, but nothing happens when I press it).

    Any ideas?
